eurail for getting a train to Cap dagdeEurail –  For trains in France (and also through Germany, Spain, Italy and within Europe, you can book through the main Eurail site. Booking the whole journey on one site tends to make the process of planning the train trip less stressful than trying to book individual journeys. Book here!

Ferries (for Uk to France) – If you are planning to take your car to Agde from the UK, travelling by ferry and then down through France will inevitably be the choice you will have. You can find Ferry bookings here!

thrifty car rental for FranceCar rental hire – There are 2 schools of thought when visiting Cap d’Agde resort regards whether or not to rent a car. The first is that you can then not to have to worry about airport transfers and will be able to explore outside of the resort i.e. to the vineyards etc. The 2nd school of thought is that once inside the resort you will have everything you need and do not need a car for your whole stay. If you do need rental car hire then Thrifty is who I normally use.

Airports

Beziers Cap d’Agde International Airport – is the closest airport to the resort and served mostly by Ryanair. It is roughly 20 minutes drive from the resort and A2A Taxis offer airport transfers to and from the resort to Beziers airport.

Montpellier International Airport – is the largest airport serving Cap d’Agde and is roughly 45 minutes drive away from the resort. Montpellier airport is connected with many large cities worldwide and thus a significant number of airlines service this airport (too many for us to list here).

Carcassonne Airport – a 1 hour 15 minutes drive from Agde and is a small regional airport. Porto, Glasgow, London, Dublin, and Charleroi are all served from this airport.

Toulouse Airport – Toulouse is a 2-hour drive from Cap d’Agde and so certainly not the closest airport to the resort. If you live in a location such as London, Dubrovnik, Munich, Bastia, Faro, Geneva, Tenerife  or Rome (and some other European cities),. a direct flight to Toulouse might be the best option.

Holiday Reading Suggestions

The Beach Hut – A highly entertaining love story set by the beach (involving a beach hut as the title suggests).

I found this a well written and enjoyable book with some great characters. Great summer reading as you lay on the beach at Cap d’;Agde!

Last Days of the Bus Club – The latest book from Chris Stewart following on from his book ‘Driving Over Lemons’ which was a great read. Chris moved to southern Spain with his wife and children and through his writing, tells the story of his battles coming to terms with living in rural Spain.

If you have ever thought about moving to a place in the sun, you should love this book.

The Elephant Whisperer – Anthony Lawrence always writes dramatic stories about his real-life experiences as the owner of a safari lodge in Africa. In this latest book he talks about his experiences and interactions with the elephants, whilst several sub-stories run such as the continuous battles with the local poachers. A captivating book that I found it hard to put down. Read it on the beach in Cap!

And 7 more  we love:

  1. Paris Was Ours: Thirty-Two Writers Reflect on the City of Light (30+ writers and their stories and experiences of Paris).
  2. Arrazat’s Aubergines: Inside a Languedoc Kitchen ( A great book if you are interested to learn more about the Languedoc region of France which is the region in which Agde is based. This book takes you into the kitchen of Languedoc food.
  3. Italian Neighbours: An Englishman in Verona (A favourite travel writer of mine is Tim Parks and his book on being British and living in Italy is an easy beach read).
  4. Staying Power: A Year in My Life (Sports – Phil Taylor and one year in his life. A fascinating book which is now out).
  5. The Sixth Man (The latest classic fiction book by David Baldacci – another captivating story-line and crime thriller).
  6. The Good Life (Another great writer, Martina Cole and her latest book.
  7. The Chimp Paradox: The Mind Management Programme to Help You Achieve Success, Confidence and Happiness (If psychology is your perfect beach read, this author has worked with many of the top sports team and is well respected and the chimp paradox a great read).
