If you are looking for great French food then the resort is perhaps not the exact place you should be visiting. The selling point of the location is the resort itself rather than Michelin-style food as you might find in Paris or other parts of France.

There are though some very decent places to eat within the resort and you also have the option to prepare your own food by buying fresh produce from the shops and supermarkets on the resort.

Places to Eat in the Resort

The food can be fine although sometimes a little pricey in some restaurants although none more so than any other tourist location you will find when you travel.

There are a number of excellent restaurants and they cover a wide range of prices.

A few restaurants are attached to the clubs and offer packages for meals and club entrances, whilst some others can be found in the hotels.

The main restaurants though and which are the most popular and which we would specifically recommend are based in areas such as the Port Nature building, the Héliopolis, and the Port Ambonne building and include:

1. Le Mississippi Restaurant

Le Mississippi restaurant

Le Mississippi is located at the end of the Port Nature building and by the sea.

This is always one of the busiest and most popular restaurants in the resort and popular for a good reason!

This is a great place for fresh fish and mussels but also good for other classic dishes and meals.

Le Mississippi is definitely worth eating in at least once if you are staying in the resort.

Tip: Weekends get extremely busy both at lunchtime and in the evenings so making a booking is a good idea on weekends.

2. Le Ghymnos Heliopolis Restaurant

Le Ghymnos can be found in the Héliopolis building at the far end of the shopping center.

Along with le Mississippi, this is the other must-try place to eat when staying in the resort.

Their specialty in Le Ghymnos is the pizzas given that they have a large traditional stone oven that they cook the pizzas in, just like if you were in Napoli.

They have a full menu though and everything from salads, steak, and fries, to seafood dishes, is available and reasonably priced.

They also give you a free aperitivo drink each when you sit down at your table. A nice touch.

Tip: Given the popularity and affordability of this eatery, it also gets very busy on weekends and after 7 p.m. in the summer months. My tip is to get there earlier or just wait in the queue for a table because it IS worth it!

3. Le Calypso

  • Telephone: 04 67 26 85 13
  • Address: 12 boulevard des Matelots. 34300 Agde (Le Cap d Agde).

Le Calypso is a popular place to eat and is based in the Port Nature block. I have to be completely honest and admit that we have not yet eaten in Le Calypso so we cannot say how good or not it is.

What we can say though is that we always hear very good things about Le Calypso from everyone we know who has eaten there.

Having said that, it is never ever as busy as Le Mississippi for some reason.

One definite benefit though is the sea view you have when eating in Le Calypso! See below.

Le Calypso has a great sea-view on its terrace
The terrace for Le Calypso overlooks the beach.

What we have seen many people do is buy a coffee or glass or bottle of wine in Le Calypso and then go onto Le Mississippi or Le Ghymnos to eat afterward.

You can find them on Facebook by the way.

4. Le Bistrot

(Port Nature 5, Le Cap D’Agde)

Le Bistrot is situated in the Port Nature block and is a restaurant that is many people’s favorite. Many people eat here two or three times a week.

Le Bistrot is known for having a good atmosphere, reasonable prices, good service, and overall excellent dishes.

You really cannot go too far wrong by choosing Le Bistrot.

5. Other Options

  • L’Horizon (Port Nature block)
  • La Grange Gourmande (Port Ambonne block)
  • La Villa Romaine
  • La Poissonnerie (outside the resort)

There is a fairly good Chinese restaurant over Le Loft nightclub above the beach in Port Nature Village that we would recommend if you like oriental food.

L’Horizon overlooks the beach in front of Port Nature itself and is good for breakfast, elevenses, lunch, and tea.

Naturist tools

We have been told Le Grange in Port Ambonne is reasonably priced. But for your main meal, the one place we recommend above all others is Ghymnos in Heliopolis.

There are several shops within the enclosed resort in Agde, France and these on resort shops include a:

  • Bakery
  • Butchers
  • Small supermarkets
  • Pizzeria
  • Fruit and Veg stalls (in the campsite)
  • Tobacconists
