Many of you need or want decent Internet and WiFi access whilst staying in the resort., whilst some of you also want TV access, particularly for major sports events on TV and if you are staying all summer.

So let me tell you the best options for Internet and TV access in the resort, below.

Internet avd TV access

Internet and WiFi Access in the Resort

You can get connected online in the resort in a variety of ways and the best option tends to depend on what accommodation you choose.

Option 1: Buy a Wifi Router That Connects to Local Data Plans

The easiest way to ensure that you have decent internet access (and this device can be used anywhere you travel worldwide) is to have a Glocalme device.

This device will enable you to set up your own Wi-Fi hotspot that you can then use for all of your devices!

With Glocame, the device helps you to purchase a local data plan so this actually can work out more affordably, than, for example, if you are paying for the campsite WiFi and it will be much more effective.

If you travel often, this item is useful in over 100 countries and as long as there is a 4G or 5G signal, then you can get WiFi access

Internet Access Everywhere you go By Creating Your Own WiFi Hotspot (Secure Connection)

So you use this WiFi Router that tells you of the local data plans so you find the cheapest, you purchase the data plan, and hey presto, you have Internet through this device.

A very important benefit of using your own hotspot is that you will have your own secure connection!

Option 2: Use Your Own Cellphone Data Plan and Create a WiFi Hotspot

If you already have a good data plan on your cellphone (mobile phone) it is very easy to set up your own wiFi hotspot.

Option 3: Install Internet Access (Apartment Owners)

There are a number of you who have bought an apartment so that you can spend all summer in the resort or so that you can rent the apartment out to make money in the summer months.

The best provider to use in the resort tends to be Orange France given that they provide the network coverage and service to be able to install wired access to your apartment.

Many of the owners who have installed the Internet in the resort use Orange.

Option 4: Staying in the Campsite

If you are staying at the campsite, your two main options are either to pay for the campsite WiFi or to set up your own WiFi hotspot (see Option 1 and Option 2 above)

Here below are the campsite WiFi prices for last year (we’ll update this when we can with this year’s prices).

Internet costs in the campsite at Cap d'Agde

The big problem with paying for the WiFi access at the campsite is that it is often very slow, especially in July and August.

Even after several years of using the campsite WiFi, it continues to be slow and very frustrating to use a lot of the time.

Rene Oltra, who manages the campsite, uses a company called Osmozis for the service and their support also can be frustrating to use.

Do remember also though that, if you use the Osmozis internet access in the campsite, you are NOT using a secured connection. So be careful with doing any transactions such as bank transactions if using an unsecure internet.

Option 5: WiFi in the Cafes and Bars

If you only need the internet to check emails and for other non-essentials, then you can use the WiFi in many of the bars and coffee shops in the resort.

You can buy a coffee or glass of wine or other drink and use the WiFi , for example, in these bars:

Baskin Robbins
You can use the WiFi as a customer in Baskin Robbins

Do consider though that this will not be a secure connection.

Option 6: Use the Hotel Wifi

If you are staying in one of the hotels, they all, as far as I am aware, provide (some at a cost) WiFi access for their guests (please do double-check this though if internet access is important to you).

Here is the information each hotel that is based inside the naturist resort provides regards Internet:

Option 7: When Renting an Apartment or Villa

Most apartments tend not to be connected to the internet, unfortunately.

You can get lucky, as I have in the past, and find that the owners have a France Orange or other account set-up, which they allow those renting the apartment to use.

If there is no landline internet access within the apartment, you can sometimes catch a signal from the German-controlled FKK WiFi area. >> Buy access here.

The other option is Option 1 above, whereby you set up your own Glocalme Wi Hotspot.

You can use the WiFi signal on numerous devices all at once, i.e. a laptop, an iPad and a phone.

It is a brilliant solution for getting reliable Internet access in a place like Cap d’Agde.

Your other option for internet access is to ask for an apartment with installed Internet access when booking. To do this though I recommend booking your apartment early.

Some of the rental apartments in the resort, such as in Port Nature and the Heliopolis building, have Internet installed.

Watching International TV in the Resort

Wondering how you can watch British, Italian, German or television from some other country, whilst in the naturist resort?

Many of you stay for an extended stay in the resort and enjoy watching television from your home country. The good news is that there are a few options these days. The following are great options:

Watching TV Online for Free

Option 1: FilmOn

One of the easiest ways to get connected to TV from one of these countries:

  • British
  • German
  • Russian
  • French
  • Italian
  • Slovakian
  • Indian
  • Swiss
  • Middle Eastern
  • Hungarian
  • Greek
  • Somali

is very simply to use FILMON.

Not only is this a free service that connects you to channels such as BBC1, BBC2, ITV, Film4 and some other mainstream channels live, but you can also, for free, set up to 10 hours of recordings.

Head out to one of the bars and restaurants in the resort at Cap, whilst, even if your laptop is turned off, the Filmon system will record your favorite British programs for free.

You can watch programs from over 600 live TV channels without it costing a penny.

There are some upgrade options, such as if you wish to have more than 10 hours of recordings at one time on your account or if you want to watch the channels in HD.

The only downside (but it is not really an issue at all) is that every hour they show you roughly one minute’s worth of advertisements. You can pay not to have the ads but that is up to you. Signup –> Filmon

Option 2: PureVPN + Catch Up TV

By using a VPN (Virtual Private Network) service such as the very popular PureVPN, you can make your laptop appear to be accessing the Internet from whichever country you wish.

So you can, for example, be sat in the campsite and watch the likes of BBC iPlayer or ITV iPlayer by setting your browser to ‘UK’.

You might want to check the legalities of whether using a VPN is legal for a specific TV service. If you are using the BBC iPlayer when you are already paying a BBC license fee (if you are British) than

“While it’s not illegal, using a VPN to watch BBC iPlayer abroad, it might be a breach of iPlayer’s terms of service – so proceed with caution.

Cordbusters

On PureVPN, you choose the country from which you wish to appear to be at a given time!

PureVPN

This will enable you, for example, to show as being in the UK and hence to be able to access BBC or ITV iPlayers to watch British TV.

You normally need to be based in the UK in order to access them, but PureVPN gives you the chance to bypass the UK restrictions.

Note: Using a VPN is always a good idea anyway, to make your internet connection one level more secure.

Data Security in Cap d’Agde

The problem, as you may already appreciate, is that there are big potential security issues for the protection of your own data (such as usernames and passwords) if you use either a public computer or a WiFi signal.

Using Public Computers

On public computers (those where you are using someone else’s desktop, such as in an internet cafe such as in Baskin Robbins) there can easily be any number of potential viruses sat on the machine and you would have little way of knowing.

You have no way to know if proper antivirus software is used on the machine and if they are updated regularly.

The simple solution is to avoid using public computers like the plague if you possibly can!

If you do not have your own laptop or device but need to checks emails, at least follow some simple rules:

  • Do not do any financial transactions on a public computer.
  • If you use a memory stick for any reason, try and make sure that you give it a virus scan before in the future using it on your own machine. Memory sticks can be a classic way to spread a computer virus.
  • Consider using an Incognito window to try and protect your passwords.

Using Your Own Device/Laptop

If you have up-to-date anti-virus running on your machine and are using a cabled connection to use the internet in Cap d’Agde, you should be all set!

If connected to a WiFi network, one of the best choices is a VPN such as PureVPN.

You can learn more about using public wiFi from:

  • Norton‘s risk of using public WiFi article.
  • Wired magazine’s article on how to stay safe on public WiFi.

Data Backups

Most of you are now using a data backup service, so you will not need perhaps to read this section.

Backing up data is essential if you want to avoid losing everything which is on your laptop or phone or another device.

One of the most popular services is Dropbox where you can get free secure storage.
