When planning a trip to the South of France, consider Montpellier as an option as the city has much to offer its visitors in terms of sightseeing.
There are many attractions for tourists located in Montpellier and tourists looking to understand a bit of the culture and history of the country will learn a lot from the museums in this city. This city also goes by the Occitan name Montpelhièr and is the capital city of both the Languedoc-Roussillon region and the Herault department.
The most popular attraction in Montpellier is the town square called the Place de la Comedie - which boasts the Three Graces fountain built in the 18th century by Etienne d’Antoine. The square was named after a theatre that was burned down in the 19th century. Other places worth visiting 
include the:
- Amazonian greenhouse
- La Serre Amazonienne
- Antigone District
- Tour de la Babote
- and the Porte du Peyrou (which is the region’s arch of triumph).
Montpellier is also home to the Musee Fabre, a world famous museum, the Jardin des Plantes de Montpellier (which is officially the oldest botanical garden in the country), the Saint Pierre Cathedral and the Saint Clement Aqueduct. Although Montpellier is a city with a number of sidewalk cafes, restaurants, nightclubs and sports facilities, it has the old world charm of a historic town and the quaint atmosphere of a French countryside village.
